Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 20: The 5th Shillong Literary Festival 2025 has kicked off with a star-studded lineup at the picturesque Ward’s Lake. Renowned authors, columnists, and artists from around the world have gathered to celebrate the power of stories and imagination.
Booker International Prize-winning writer Banu Mushtaq reflected on the city’s creative spirit, saying, “To stand in Shillong today feels like walking into a page that has been quietly waiting for me.” Spanish author Francesc Miralles shared his bond with India, revealing that his first trip to India in 1998 inspired him to become a writer.
The festival features a range of sessions, performances, and discussions that showcase the diversity of voices and the rootedness of the festival in the local literary landscape. Three books were launched on the first day, highlighting the richness of Meghalaya’s literary scene.
The festival will continue for three days, promising to be a must-attend event for literature lovers and anyone looking to be inspired by the beauty of words.
