Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 4: In a major development, Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh has been appointed as an advisor to the Government of Meghalaya. Although specific details regarding her portfolio and tenure are yet to be officially announced, sources confirm that her extensive experience in politics and governance will be invaluable to the state government.
Dr. Lyngdoh is a seasoned politician with a long history of public service. She has held various key positions in the Meghalaya government, including Cabinet Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Health and Family Welfare, Information and Public Relations, and Law. Her tenure as Minister of Education from 2009 to 2013 was marked by significant initiatives, although her involvement in controversies, such as the alleged irregularities in teacher appointments in 2010, has been notable.
As advisor, Dr. Lyngdoh is expected to provide strategic guidance and support to the government on critical issues, leveraging her expertise in policy-making, governance, and public administration. Her appointment is seen as a move to strengthen the government’s advisory framework and tap into her vast experience in state affairs.
Dr. Lyngdoh’s educational background includes a Ph.D. from North Eastern Hill University, and she has been actively involved in various assembly committees, including the Standing Committee for the Empowerment of Women and the Committee for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and Other Backward Classes.
