Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 5: In a crackdown on anti-social elements, Cantonment BH police detained 20 individuals suspected of drug use in a surprise operation conducted along GS Road, near Ajmera and Boucher Road, today.
According to police sources, the detainees were found loitering and obstructing the footpath, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and commuters.
“We have been receiving complaints about the presence of suspicious individuals in the area,” said a senior police official. “Today’s operation was conducted to identify and detain those involved in anti-social activities.”
The detainees have been profiled and bound down under various provisions of the BNSS Act. Further investigations are underway to determine their involvement in drug-related activities.
The police action is seen as a welcome move by local residents and traders, who have been complaining about the increasing presence of anti-social elements in the area.
