Imphal (Manipur), April 10:The Manipur Government has decided to close the recently reopened schools for Class VI to VIII in view of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic across the country. All the concerned stakeholders of government and private institutions or schools have been urged to comply.
“However, the physical classes for Class-IX to XII shall continue by strictly observing the approved SoP/ Guidelines framed by the State Government,” said an order issued by the Director of Education (S), Government of Manipur on April 9.
The decision was taken up by the state government to avoid any kind of unwanted consequences likely to occur in the near future, the order stated. It was also reiterated that the classes for students of Class V and below will be conducted through online mode only as notified earlier.
The number of COVID cases continued rising in the state in the past weeks. The state used to report single digit cases for quite some time. The recent surge has been mainly due to people of the state returning from outside.
The Manipur Government has re-initiated testing at entry points through land at Jiribam and Mao gate. The passengers coming by air at the Imphal airport are also undergoing mandatory COVID testing.
