Shillong ( Meghalaya ), Feb 21 : Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong organized “PEACE CONCLAVE” on Saturday at Hotel Pinewood here . The event was focused towards building a peaceful world, marking Rotary International’s Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution month. The event was sponsored by Green Orchid, Guwahati.
Major General Ananta Bhuyan , ADG, NCC- NE Region Directorate graced the programme as the Chief guest .
Eminent speakers Prof. Akhil Ranjan Dutta, Prof. and Head of Political Science Department, Gauhati University, Ms. Rikynti Marwein , Editor, Highland post, Samudra Gupta Kashyap, State Information Commissioner Assam, Swami Hitakamananda, Secretary Maharaj of Rama Krishna Mission, Shillong and Supriya Khound ,Project officer, UNDP, NE Region spoke on the occasion.
Prof. A R Dutta deliberated on historical journey of peace-making to present day.
Ms . Rikynti Marwein said during her address that the states in the NE Region need to work with youth and train them to become the peace-makers of the society, she talked about an innovative approach of achieving it through ‘peace garden’.
Samudra G Kashyap deliberated on the role of media in peace-keeping in the country, particularly in NE region. Swami Hitakamananda delivered a talk on the inner and spiritual peace. Smt. Supriya presented on the role of UN through UNDP and SDGs in peace-keeping in the world.
Chief Guest Major General Ananta Bhuyan, during his address said that military is a very stabilizing factor for bringing stability and peace and many times through military interventions, peace is restored, but after a certain point, involvement of peace leaders, NGOs and the general public is necessary for complete restoration of peace and consequent development. He also emphasized on the role of NCC in shaping the youths of the nation towards building a peaceful society.
President Rotarian Vincent Darlong, Chairperson Rtn Pubalee Dutta Bujarbaruah,club Secretary Rtn Vivek Kumar other members of the club were present in the program.
The program was attended by other distinguished guest, NGO’s, civil societies, on invitation.
The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Secretary Rtn Vivek Kumar during which he said that, “Rotary will keep on working to create a future of harmony, acceptance and togetherness that the generations will marvel at”
