Shillong(Meghalaya), July 19 : The state registered 32 new Covid cases today taking the total number of cases in the state to 450 . Out of the 32 new cases 29 are BSF personnel in East Khasi Hills district and two others which include a resident of Khanapara in Ri-Bhoi district.
The active cases as of now stand at 397.
Two critically ill Covid patients succumbed to their infections at the ICU of NEIGRIHMS today and have been identified as Banteilang Syngai (40) and BSF personnel Nandeshwar Deury (46) of the BSF camp at Umpling in Shillong.
Syngai, a resident of Ladsharai in Ri-Bhoi district, was serving at the Geological Survey of India (GSI) at Kolkata.
According to a statement issued by NEIGRIHMS, the BSF jawan had a history of contact with a confirmed Covid case and developed symptoms and was tested positive on July 4.
The BSF personnel died due acute respiratory distress syndrome with severe sepsis and multi-organ failure .
Sungai was admitted to NEIGRIHMS with complaints of pain in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen.
He had returned from Kolkata on July 5 and was in a quarantine facility prior to his transfer to NEIGRIHMS and was diagnosed as a case of acute calculus cholecystitis.
Sungai developed diarrhea and acute kidney injury (AKI) and was transferred to the COVID ICU for treatment .
He developed sudden respiratory failure on Saturday and was intubated . He developed respiratory and passed away due to cardiac arrest on Sunday .
