Kokrajhar (Assam),April 23 : In a an unique way of extending solidarity during the ongoing country wide lockdown, three members of the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) including it’s president Dipen Boro has been observing aday-long fast every Wednesday of the week and this would continue till the COVID-19 spread is controlled and the lockdown ends as a mark of solidarity with the poor and the hungry who at times have to go to the bed without food in the state and the country .
The students union members observed the fasting yesterday while following the guidelines from government and maintaining social distancing as per the lockdown norms .
The fasting initiative started on April 15 last at Bodofa House in Kokrajhar to extend their solidarity with the poor and needy to fight the deadly Coronavirus in the country.
Three student leaders who undertake fasting every Wednesday are its president Dipen Boro, education secretary Kastom Basumatary and assistant literary secretary Somit Narzary.
The students union has also started their student welfare activities like online class for class X for Bodo medium students. ABSU leaders has drawn the inspiration from Mumbai based activist Biren Butto.
President of the ABSU Dipen Boro while talking exclusively with this Correspondent said that ever since the nationwide lockdown was announced from March 24 it has brought huge crisis among the common citizens of the country.
The three leaders are observing a day-long fast since April 15 on every Wednesday till the Covid-19 virus subsides and the lockdown period ends .
He said that the students union will always stand by with the common masses in the state and will dedicate their services in the near future.
“We will continue the fasts once every week till things return to normal”, Boro added.
He also informed that online classes for the students of class X started since April 17 to bring back educational environment among the students community in the state and several teachers from Mathematics, Science and English background subjects have been deployed to teach the students during the lockdown period.
ABSU president also urged upon the state government and education department to distribute textbooks among the students in the state at the earliest as most of the schools in several districts are yet to get textbooks in the state.
