Kokrajhar (Assam) ,Sept 22: The All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) has demanded increase in number of seats in the Master Degree programme in Bodoland University and to allow scholars to write their Ph.D thesis in Bodo dialect as Bodo language is recognized under the eighth scheduled of the Indian constitution.
A five member delegation of ABSU led by it’s assistant general secretary Khwrwmdao Wary met Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University Prof Laishram Ladusingh and submitted a memorandum that sought quality education in the university.
The students union said that due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic several hundred students could not make it to other universities in the country and hence Bodoland University should increase the capacity of admission in all the disciplines .
ABSU education secretary Kastom Basumatary after meeting the VC said that they placed a two point charter of demands for the welfare of the students community in the BTC region.
He said that ABSU demanded increase in the number of seats in all streams and to allow Ph.D. scholars to write in Bodo dialect as Bodo language is included under the eight schedule of the constitution .
The VC Prof Ladusingh gave a patient hearing to the demands of the ABSU delegation and assured to step up the welfare activities of student community .
He has urged upon the state government for provincialization of all venture schools through the clause 6.3 of the BTR accord in Bodoland region as well as outside of the BTAD region.
He also informed that recently a delegation of ABSU met education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and discussed on the implementation of the clause 6.3 of the BTR accord and provincialization of schools across the state.
