Shillong(Meghalaya), May 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for the northeastern states, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in several districts.
A deep depression over Northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the region, with Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura likely to be affected.
In Meghalaya, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in East Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills, and East Khasi Hills districts, while West Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, and West Jaintia Hills may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Assam is also expected to receive heavy rainfall, with Guwahati, Silchar, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, and North Lakhimpur likely to be affected.
