Guwahati(Assam), Mar 26 : In a brazen attack on press freedom, a journalist was detained by police in Assam for daring to report on a high-profile bank scandal. Dilwar Hussain Mozumdar, a fearless journalist with ‘The Cross Current’, was taken into custody while covering a protest against alleged financial irregularities at the Assam Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd.
The protest, organized by the Jatiya Yuva Shakti (JYS), demanded justice and accountability for the bank’s top officials. But instead of taking action against the accused, the police cracked down on the journalist, raising concerns about the state government’s attempts to muzzle the media.
Mozumdar’s detention has sparked outrage across the country, with journalists, activists, and opposition parties condemning the Assam government’s blatant attempt to silence the press. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by journalists who dare to speak truth to power.
