Guwahati( Assam ), April ,10 : The first case of death due to COVID -19 was reported in the state on Friday.
The 65-year-old patient hailing from Hailakandi district passed away at Silchar Medical Colllege Hospital with complications of COVID-19 at 2 am today.
The patient , Faijul Haque Barbhyan, was undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). He had a travel history to Saudi Arabia, and had tested COVID-19 positive along with 29 others from the state.
He also had a travel history to Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi.
State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to announce the demise of the COVID-19 patient, the first casualty in the State.
He tweeted: ‘With utmost Grief and sorrow,I would like to inform that Sri Faijul Haque Barbhyan,(65)Hailakandi District has expired few minutes back in SMCH due to complication of COVID19 infection.My deep condolences and prayers for the bereaved family.’
The condition of the patient had turned ‘ critical’ on Thursday and his oxygen saturation had begun decreasing. He was immediately shifted to the ICU of the hospital for specialized care .
Official sources said the funeral of the Barbhuiya will be held according to the COVID-19 protocol.
