Kokrajhar (Assam),Feb 12: What was being heard of ABSU president Promod Boro of joining active politics has finally happened . Today , he resigned from the presidents post after 11 long years at a special convention being held at Gwjwn Pwthar Tamulpur in Assam’s Baksa district.
Boro was first the first president of the students union in 2009 and served till his resignation today.He tendered his resignation from the presidential post after addressing the special session of the students union which was started from Wednesday with two day programme .
In the special session of the students union,a minor reshuffle was made after Boro’s resignation . Along with him one of the two vice presidents Romio P Narzary and one of the secretaries Montu Boro also tendered their resignation from the posts and the the students union.
Vice president of the ABSU,Dipen Boro has been elevated to the post of the new president of the students union.Existing speakers Jayanta Basumatary and Sunilal Basumatary were made the vice presidents.Phanin Boro from Chirang has been made the speaker of the students union.Rwmdwn Basumatary and Robiram Narzary will be the new secretaries of the students union.
Boro said that he has held the presidential post since 2009 and today finally got relieved from the students union and would now be working for the welfare of this common masses .
He made it clear that he would be actively participating in the ensuing BTC council elections due in March-April next.
.He is likely join a political party within a short span of time ahead council elections.
A special convention of the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) started today with a two- day programme at Gwjwn Pwthar near Tamulpur in Assam’s Baksa district.
The students union has convened this special session just after signing of the historic Bodo Accord which led to the creation of Bodoland Territorial Region(BTR) .
Delegates and observers from different districts of the state are also participating in the 2 day convention.
Boro said that the students union has been organising the session after creation BTR in the region.He mentioned that students union and several organisations have carried out various protest rallies and agitations demanding a permanent solution to of the Bodo issues for over five decades.
He said that the Bodo leaders including all factions of NDFB have collectively come forward to settle Bodo issues and signed the historic Bodo Accord recently for overall development of the Bodo community .
He said that the Bodo accord was signed to pave way development and welfare in the region for which why ABSU and several organisations have been carrying out strong mass movements in the state.
He assured that the clauses of the Bodo accord would be implemented in right earnest in the coming days. He added that the BTR area must get integrated and upliftment through the peace and unity amongst the society.
