Kokrajhar (Assam),Feb 13: An extremely emotional farewell was accorded to the former president of the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) Pramod Boro who had served the Bodo community , especially the students community for more than a decade . Pramod was the longest serving president of any students organisation in the entire North Eastern Region who gave his life and soul for the students community and the general populace .
Mild -mannered and soft -spoken Boro will always be remembered by the the students community in the Bodoland area for his selfless services to the students community and the Bodo populace . Though very mild -mannered he was articulate and was known for his oratory skills.
Today , the entire students community irrespective of caste and creed bid a tearful farewell to the leader as he resigned as the President to take part in other developmental activities for the benefit of the general masses after the signing of the historic Bodo Accord on Jan 27 last .
Though the moment was very emotional today during the special convention of the students union at Gwjwn Pwthar Tamulpur in Baksa district all the people who had assembled wished him all success in his new endeavor to uplift the Bodo community .
Boro was relieved from the president post of the ABSU after serving 11 years as president .Boro,now 47 years of age,has been associated with the student union since 30 years and has held various positions within the students body ,including Anchalik leadership,district and later held the post of vice president as well president in the central committee of the students union.
He was elevated to the post of the first president in 2009 and held the position till yesterday.
Along with Boro and two other leaders including vice president Romio P Narzary and secretary Mantu Bodo also resigned from their respective positions .
In their place ,Former vice president Dipen Boro was elevated as new president while Former speaker Jayanta Basumatary was elevated to the post of the vice president. Phanin Boro was elevated as speaker of the ABSU in place of Basumatary .
For the last time ,Pramod Boro hoisted the ABSU flag and addressed the students that saw many shedding their tears o as they felt the vacuum created by his resignation would be hard to fill up.
People from all walks of life including students union leaders offered their warm felicitations with traditional Aronai and flowers .
Infact , seeing the emotions of his fellow members, Boro,broke down in his last address in my session and hugged the students with the hope that they would be able to take the movement forward .
In his last speech as the president of ABSU he thanked all the ABSU family members and well wishers for extending support and help in his tenure as the President for the past 11 years .
He said that ABSU is a vibrant organization of the society,which is working for the Bodo community.
” I served for 30 years in students union and was the office bearer for nearly 19 years of which i served as the president for 11 years since 2009. The students community and the Bodo people had firm belief and faith on my leadership and as i bid goodbye to the the students movement i would urge new students body office bearers to sincerely work for the community with dedication”, Boro said .
Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma had contributed a lot towards the community”,he added .
“We must maintain peace and tranquility environment amongst all sections of the society”, Boro said.
He thanked and appreciated over 5000 volunteers of the students union who are rendering selfless services ,24×7 for the uplift and welfare for the greater Bodo society.
.”We do hope that the recent signed Bodo accord will bring more integrity and developmental in the entire BTR and assured that each and every clauses of the third Bodo accord would be properly implemented .I expect with the formation Bodo Kochary welfare council will bring better development in near future”, he said.
About his proposed new role he said that politics is not the above of the society,but politics must be a commitment for the welfare of the society.
So, my desire will always be a healthy social integration amongst the society.
“We must use the talent of Bodo youths to lead the society in the right ”, Boro added .
The Bodo accord signatories including former ABSU president Pramod Boro,NDFB-P president Gabinda Basumatary,general secretary of NDFB– Saoraigwra faction,B R Ferenga were accorded warm felicitations during the event.
