Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 12 : Top HNLC leader Wankupar Marwein who received arms training in neighbouring Bangladesh surrendered before the state DGP R . Chandranathan here today .
Also known as Bahhep Traisiej, he was Finance Secretary of Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).
Wankupar is a resident of Mawlai Nonglum area here was arrested way back in 1999 on charges of extortion and other violent activites but after being released on bail, he rejoined HNLC in 2000 and left for Bangladesh where he received arms training in Chittagong Hill Tracts in neighbouring Bangladesh.
At the time of his surrender today he was the finance secretary of the outfit under the political wing .
According to police sources , HNLC is facing severe fund crunch and many of the top leaders are planning to surrender .
