Shillong (Meghalaya), Mar 13: In an extraordinary feat of exploration and adventure, a team of 25 cavers from India and abroad embarked on an epic expedition to uncover the uncharted caves of Meghalaya, aptly known as the “Abode of the Clouds”.
The expedition, supported by the Shillong-based Meghalaya Adventurers Association, took place from Feb 2 to 28.
The journey began with a week-long pre-expedition in the Byrong Area of Wahlong, East Khasi Hills District, where the team explored the vicinity of the village of Byrong from Feb 2 to 8. This was followed by a three-week main expedition, which delved deeper into the region’s unexplored caves and rugged terrain.
The expedition was a testament to the enduring partnership between Indian and foreign cavers, who came together to explore and document the natural wonders of Meghalaya.
The team’s remarkable journey has shed new light on the region’s unique geology and biodiversity and has paved the way for future expeditions and discoveries.
