Tura (Meghalaya), Oct 3: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has launched the newly constructed 33/11KV, 2X2.5 MVA Rerapara (Damalgre) Sub-station in South West Garo Hills, ensuring a stable power supply to Damalgre and surrounding villages.
Funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), this Rs. 6.19 crore project aims to reduce power interruptions significantly. The sub-station boasts of 2 new 2.5MVA power transformers to cater to the load of Damalgre and adjoining areas ,1 Control Room for efficient operations and 1 Staff barrack for on-site personnel
This infrastructure upgrade will bring numerous benefits to the region, including reduced power interruptions, Improved power supply to areas like Damalgre, Melim, Dengnakpara, Okkapara, Grenggandi, Rongbakgre, and other adjoining areas and enhanced economic activities and job creation
According to Chief Minister Sangma, “The establishment of this sub-station will provide a stable power supply, reducing interruptions and enabling a conducive atmosphere for local economic growth.” Power Minister Abu Taheer Mondal added that the project will improve Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses and strengthen the power distribution network.
The inauguration was attended by Minister i/c Power, Abu Taher Mondal, MLAs Subir Marak and Sanjay A Sangma.
This development marks a significant step towards improving Meghalaya’s power infrastructure, positively impacting local communities and businesses.
