Tura ( Meghalaya ) , July 27: Several Garo civil bodies, including the GSU, FKJGP, ADE and AYWO today held a poster campaign over their demand for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) within the state of Meghalaya.
The protest, through poster campaigns took place across all the 5 districts of Garo Hills, with reiteration of their demand for ILP in view of unwanted migrations from outside the state.
“Our next course of action will be to meet all the 6 CSOs on the matter and chalk out our future strategies to impress upon the central government the need for implementation of ILP within Meghalaya. We are sure of aggressively pushing forward our demand,” stated the NGOs.
The recent visit by the central home minister, Amit Shah into the state seems to have given a fresh lease of life to the demand for ILP after the minister shunned CSOs that had come to meet him over the demand.
Earlier effigies of the home minister had also been burnt in the town of Tura to show their displeasure over Shah ignoring the NGOs.
