Williamnagar (Meghalaya ), July 28: The consortium of NGOs that were protesting the transfer of doctors from Williamnagar Civil Hospital have decided to call of their 3 day office picket protest after assurances from the deputy commissioner, Swapnil Tembe of taking up the cause with the health department.
The NGOs, including the GSU, FKJGP, AIGU, FAF and ICFS today met the DC at his office chamber a day after their protest began.
The DC today met the NGOs and provided a written assurance from the administration over what he said were absolutely genuine demands affecting the district and its people and promised to actively pursue the matter with the concerned authorities.
The DC in his letter mentioned that he was aware of the transfer without a reliever as well as critical vacancies in ENT, Radiology and an eye specialist that were still to be fulfilled.
“These are critical services to safeguard public health and people of the district are being devoid of such services. There has been strong demand from various sections for the posting of these medical officers at the earliest,” stated the DC.
Following the assurances, the protest has been called off.
