Shillong (Meghalaya), April 25: An Assistant Professor at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the President of the NEHU Students’ Union (NEHUSU) and five others, accusing them of physical assault and threatening his life.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred on April 24, 2025, at around 4:45 pm, when the accused allegedly forcibly locked the professor inside his chamber and assaulted him, causing injuries to his head, legs, and hands. The professor also claimed that he was threatened with scissors to his neck and was told that he would be killed.
The FIR states that the professor is now feeling unsafe and fearful within the campus premises and has urged the authorities to take immediate action to ensure his safety and uphold the dignity of the institution.
The university authorities are expected to take cognizance of the matter and initiate appropriate action against the accused. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of faculty members on campus.
