Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), a flagship programme of the Government of India which aims to provide Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to every Rural Household by 2024 was launched by the PM Narendra Modi on Aug 15 2019.
In Meghalaya, under the Mission, the aim is to provide FHTC to every rural household by 2023. To achieve this goal within the targeted time, the training cum orientation programme aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to JJM in Meghalaya and to give a glimpse of how the Mission can be taken forward so that its message will reach each and every household in the State through the combined efforts at the State, District and Village level.
Ms I. Laloo, Deputy Commissioner East Khasi District, said that only 18 % of households in the country have FHTC. She also added that the vision of the Mission is not only to roll out a scheme but to oversee the end to end implementation and prioritization of water conservation and water sustainability. Informing that till date 40% of the targeted goal of the Mission has been achieved in the State, Ms. I. Laloo called for the active collaboration of all line departments, implementing agencies, village grassroots and village level organisations to play a vital role in ensuring that water conservation activities are given priority. She also stressed on the need for capacity building at the grassroots level.
