Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 12: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has issued a heartfelt appeal for support in the wake of the recent floods that have ravaged the state, leaving countless families devastated. The floods have claimed 17 precious lives, destroyed homes, and torn communities apart, with West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills bearing the brunt of the disaster.
The Chief Minister’s plea comes as the state struggles to cope with the aftermath of the floods, which have affected approximately 5.8 million people, including 3.05 million females, 72,467 people with disabilities, and 0.59 million infants and children.
Relief Efforts Underway:
The Indian Air Force has deployed choppers to air-drop essential supplies, including rice, dal, cooking oil, milk, sugar, tea, and blankets, to stranded residents in South Garo Hills . Meanwhile, the state government is working tirelessly to restore connectivity, provide relief to affected families, and rebuild the state.
