Tura (Meghalaya),June 8: Noted lawyer and former president of the Tura Bar Association, Jugal Kishore Sharma passed away today after a prolonged illness in Guwahati. Sharma was one of the founding members of the Tura Bar Association. He was 78 and is survived by his wife and 3 children, 2 sons and a daughter.
Lawyer Sharma was being treated at the Ayursundra Hospital and was surrounded by his family at the time of his demise.
Fondly called ‘Uncle’ by all that knew him, Sharma was a knowledge storehouse of laws and the beacon for most practicing lawyers in Garo Hills. His passing has been mourned by members of the lawyer fraternity from Tura who also prayed for strength to his family in their moment of grief.
As much as he was known for his legal acumen, he was also a man known for his humane nature across the region, with many going onto social media to condole his death this evening.
He held several posts of eminence in Meghalaya, a few of them being the legal advisor of GHADC, legal advisor to the Bishop of Tura and many other institutions of social and legal importance. He was also one of the founding members of the Tura Law College.
‘Uncle’s death is the third such casualty for the lawyer fraternity in Garo Hills this week. Earlier last week, Eubrenald Sangma and another advocate Singha passed away due to COVID related complications.
