Tura(Meghalaya ), June 8: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress took a dig at the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi asking why it took months to act on ‘Free Vaccine for all’ when by law COVID – 19 was a notified disaster.
“With COVID being a notified disaster, they had all the power and resources to help the people get vaccinated. You need a political will which seems to have been lacking,” said MPYC president, Richard Marak.
Marak welcomed the move of the centre to take up vaccine procurement as well as the announcement of free vaccination for all above 18 years that was made by the PM yesterday during an address to the nation.
“Imagine how many lives would have been saved if the PM had placed sufficient orders for vaccines from India and abroad during the first wave. Had the government not changed the vaccination policy on May 1 – shifting the procurement and financial burden to the states, there would have been no chaos,” said Marak.
The MPYC president asserted that the Congress party under Rahul Gandhi had been demanding that the central government vaccinate all citizens for free.
“We have lost 193373 people between Feb 16 – June 7. Seriously at this time all we can say is Modiji bhasan nahi, maafi maango,” said the MPYC president through a release this morning.
