Shillong(Meghalaya), Oct 22 : The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) today observed a black flag day protesting the unpresented oil price hike the government.
The members took out a protest rally from Motphran to Khyndai Lad (Police Bazar) here today .
The HYC members placed banners near the Motphran memorial monument at Iewduh protesting the state Government’s inability to control the unreasonable hike in the prices of oil, diesel and gas in the state.
When the marchers reached Khyndai Lad, they were held up by the police and were not allowed to proceed further.
At Khyndai Lad, the members of HYC members again placed banners and also released balloons into the air as a mark of protest .
Speaking to the media, the HYC General Secretary said the hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and gas will not only affect the car owners, but also the poor people of the state.
The GS said the state Government can always approach the Centre in this regard because the Central Excise Duty was too much hovering between 60 percent to 70 percent, while the actual price of oil is very low.
He also appealed to the Meghalaya oil retailers and dealers to intervene like their counterparts in Assam.
The GS added that when the prices of petrol, diesel and gas goes up, the prices of essential commodities also start soaring up as Meghalaya is solely dependent on road transportation.
