Shillong(Meghalaya), Jan 17 : The Meghalya Cabinet today. Janauary 17 , 2022 approved the shifting of Government administrative building from Additional Secretariat in Shillong to Mawpdang-Mawkhanu in New Shillong Township.
This was disclosed by Meghalaya Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui .
Briefing the media, Rymbui said that the State Government is acquiring around 807.78 acres of land in the outskirts of Shillong. He said that the decision was taken due perenial to traffic congestion in the capital City. He also informed that the foundation stone for the new Administrative Building will be laid on Jan 21 next year , as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Meghalaya’s 50 years of statehood.
Rymbui also informed that the cabinet also approved the the Early Childhood Development Mission to provide holistic development which includes health care and education for children who are not covered under the ICDS. The Home Minister also informed that there are over 1500 villages across the State which are not covered by ICDS programmes and this mission will target children residing in the uncovered villages. The programme will be implemented in a convergence mode with the involvement of the Social Welfare Department, Education department and stakeholders.
He added that there are more than 4 lakh children under the age group of 0-6 years who would benefit from this mission.
Rymbui stated an amount of Rs. 350 crores will be utilized by the mission.
