Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 20 : In a significant blow to smuggling operations, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier successfully thwarted multiple attempts to smuggle contraband items to Bangladesh on Jan 19.
Acting on specific intelligence, BSF troops launched a series of operations in East Jaintia Hills and West Garo Hills, resulting in the seizure of a substantial haul of illegal goods. The confiscated items included:
– Medical Supplies: IV cannula sets and cough syrup
– Livestock: Cattle
– Food Items: Sugar, zeera, and chocolate
– Other Goods : Blankets and a TATA truck used for transporting the contraband items
The total value of the seized items is estimated at ₹52.76 lakh. The BSF has handed over the confiscated goods to relevant Customs offices and police stations for further investigation and legal action.
