Jowai (Meghalaya), Jan 21: The 6th Meghalaya Games 2025 was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma at the Wahiajer Stadium in Jowai, bringing together 3500 athletes from 29 different sports across all 12 districts of Meghalaya.
This year’s edition features several notable highlights, including:
Traditional Sports: The games will host three traditional sports of Meghalaya – Mawpoin, Rah Moo Khrah, and An’Ding Oka – showcasing the state’s commitment to preserving and promoting indigenous sports.
Para-Athletes : For the first time, the Meghalaya Games will feature seven para-athletes, four women and three men, participating in the para-shooting event (pistol and rifles).
Increased Participation: The games have seen an increase in participation, with over 3500 athletes competing across 25 sporting disciplines, compared to 3000 participants in the previous edition.
Infrastructure Development: The hosting of the games has led to significant infrastructure development in Jowai and West Jaintia Hills, including road construction, improvement of buildings, and the construction of a massive stadium.
The games are set to award over 1600 medals across six days of intense competition, with events being held across multiple venues in Jowai and other locations in West Jaintia Hills.
