Shillong, Oct 16: Shillong Traffic Police on Friday announced extensive traffic restrictions for Durga Puja from Oct 17 to 20 and immersion on Oct 21, with sector-wise no entry, diversions and strict no parking.
SP (Traffic) Dr Hari Prasanth M R said parking within 100 metres of pandals is banned and violators will face challan, clamping and towing, while emergency vehicles will get priority.
No entry will be enforced from Forest Colony to CRPF Camp, Gandhi Bunyadi School Jn to Pynthor, Oakland Jn to Oakland pandal, MeECL office to Keating Road, Harrison Bridge to Zig-Zag Road, Shillong Times Jn to Rilbong New Bridge and Oxford, Oxford Jn to Shillong Times Jn, Last Stop to Oxford, MGCC Jn to Oxford, SIB office to Kench’s Trace, Laban Dispensary to Harisabha pandal, PS to Sanathan pandal, Fire Brigade point to Fire Service pandal, Motinagar Jn to Pantaloons Jn, Law College to main road, New Colony to Bengalee School pandal, District Council point to MES point as per traffic, Mahavir Park to Jhalupara, Chokhani Building to Paltan Bazar Jeep Stand, Kyrbom to Jhalupara, RR Colony Main Road to Community Hall and vice versa, and Lumshyiap Nongmensong to Nongmensong point. On immersion day, CS Jn to 4th Furlong, Polo point to 4th Furlong, 4th Furlong to Polo point and BK Bajoria to 4th Furlong will be allowed only for idol-carrying vehicles.
Diversions will be towards Jail Road, Lawmali, Golf Club, Kachari point, Laitumkhrah, Goraline via Nongkynrih, Lumpngad, Motinagar, Kharmalki via Woodland, NEEPCO, Bivar Road, Oakland, BK Bajoria, Commerce College, Bishnupur, Batti Bazaar, Motphran, Trenching Ground, BSNL Quarter and Atomic Energy office.
No parking has been declared on both sides of Laban PS to Circuit House, Howell Road to Batti Bazaar, RR Colony Main Roads and Lane No 6, Paltan Bazar, Lumdiengjri PS to Mawprem, District Council to Kyrbom and to Chokhani Building, and Trenching Ground to Jhalupara.
Curbs will start from 8 am, with major points from 12 noon to 6 pm. Public has been asked to use alternative routes, authorised parking and dial 112 for assistance.
