Shillong, Oct 15: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Thursday has asked the Conrad Sangma Government in Meghalaya to reveal the status of the selection process in the state.
Alleging inordinate delay in submitting a proposal to the Centre for the appointment of DGP, party VPP spokesperson A.W. Rani said that the government must explain the steps taken to comply with the prescribed procedure for appointing the DGP.
According to the opposition party, the UPSC wrote to the state government in September. He raised question as to why the government failed to initiate or complete the necessary formalities despite the commission’s communication.
Rani said, “It raises a big question as to why the Meghalaya government has failed to take the necessary steps despite repeated communications from the UPSC.”
The party further demanded details of the correspondence between the state government and the UPSC, along with information on the measures taken to prepare and submit the proposal.
