New Delhi, Oct 9: Amid heavy deployment of security forces, the Delhi Police on Friday made it simple and clear that no protest would be allowed to take place at Jantar Mantar on Saturday.
It is warned that appropriate legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the provisions of Section 163 of the BNSS.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday morning, Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi Range) Nupur Prasad said that the protest, proposed by the CJI, could result in law-and-order situation, absence of public safety. She said that the decision to disallow the permission was taken after considering the prevailing situation.
She said, “Yes, we have received the application to be considered properly, and it was found that it was given at very short notice. As per the prescribed guidelines, the intimation has to be received 10 days prior to the planned protest.”
She further said that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) was in force in the New Delhi area, with preventive restrictions imposed to maintain public order and safety. From Friday, the authorities have already asked the wine shops in the capital to remain close.
