Shillong, Sep 10: Rangdajied United finally opened their account in style, coming from behind to thrash Laitkor 3-1 in the Shillong Premier League at SSA Stadium today.
Hamingbert Nongbet gave Laitkor a 32nd minute lead but Rangdajied hit back with three second-half strikes through Franky Dkhar (53′), Mebannangkiew Thabah (73′) and Pasborlang Khonglikong (88′).
Laitkor looked sharper early. Samuel Suting, Hamingbert and Shanborlang Nonglait all went close before Hamingbert broke the deadlock, latching on to Samborwell Mynsong’s pass and threading it past keeper Meshanbanjop Sumer.
Rangdajied, who had only 1 point from three games despite scoring in each, came out transformed after the break.
The equaliser came from a howler. Laitkor keeper Deranius Wahlang carried the ball outside the box while trying to clear long. Franky punished him with a low free kick through the wall.
Rangdajied kept pressing and took the lead in the 73rd minute when Mebannangkiew guided home from a left-wing move. He almost added another on the counter but shot wide from a tight angle.
The best goal was saved for last. Balamlynti Khongjee’s cross found Pasborlang in the middle who scored with a stunning hook while almost seated on the ground in the 88th minute.
Keeper Meshanbanjop also played hero with two sharp saves in the dying minutes, including a fingertip stop to deny Wadskhem Marbaniang.
The win lifts Rangdajied out of the relegation zone to 7th with 4 points, pushing Nongkseh to 8th and Laitkor down to 9th.
Tomorrow, Nongkseh face Meghalaya Police at 3:30 pm.
