Shillong, Sept 8: Meghalaya’s electoral roll revision has hit top gear. Chief Electoral Officer today reviewed the Special Intensive Revision 2026 with all Deputy Commissioners, DEOs, EROs, AEROs and political parties via video conference.
Out of 21.69 lakh electors in the draft roll, 6,51,735 have been flagged for scrutiny. Notices to 6,20,730 have been delivered and 31,005 are still pending. The CEO directed districts to deliver the remaining notices immediately.
Hearings are underway across the state. As many as 2,08,870 hearings have been conducted so far, which is 32 percent of total notices. Only 384 names have been found ineligible till now after inquiry.
The CEO made it clear that getting a notice does not mean your vote is cut. It is only a chance to clear discrepancy. No name from the draft roll will be deleted without due process, notice and hearing.
The 6.51 lakh cases include 2,22,786 electors under No Mapping and 4,28,949 with mapping discrepancies.
After draft publication, 12,951 fresh applications have come in including 6,804 Form 6 for new inclusion, 738 Form 7, 982 Form 8 for shifting and 4,427 Form 8 for correction.
Political parties have deployed 1,814 Booth Level Agents to assist voters. NPP has 736 BLAs, BJP 393, VPP 320, INC 186, UDP 121 and AITC 58.
Owing to last month’s law and order disruption in Shillong which stalled the process, the SIR schedule has been extended by 14 days. Claims and objections can now be filed till September 18, disposal and hearings will end by October 17 and the final roll will be published on October 21.
The CEO appealed to all electors to check their name, respond to notice, attend hearing and act on time.
