Shillong, Sept 7: Meghalaya Football Association has pulled off a masterstroke ahead of National Games 2027 – bringing back coaching legend H Standly Rozario as head coach.
Rozario, fondly called Stanley, knows Meghalaya and the North-East like the back of his hand.
He had led Shillong Lajong FC in its historic debut I-League season in 2009-10 and guided the Reds to Federation Cup final. He later shaped United Sikkim FC, Aizawl FC, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Salgaocar and Army XI.
The AFC Pro Licence holder was also assistant to Bob Houghton with the Indian senior team from 2006-2008.
MFA said after a long hunt, Rozario was the perfect fit – experienced, successful and brilliant with young talent.
With Meghalaya set to host National Games 2027, the Government is backing associations with infrastructure, equipment and exposure.
And in football – the state’s heartbeat – hopes have just soared.
