Shillong, July 20 : The State-level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026 kicks off tomorrow and will run till July 25, bringing together young footballers from across Meghalaya to compete for state honors.
Organized by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, the tournament will be played at SSA Stadium Polo, Mawlai Stadium Madan Heh, and MFA Turf Polo. This year’s edition will feature three categories — Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Boys, and Under-17 Girls — with 34 school teams representing all districts of the state. The competition format has teams divided into four groups, with group matches scheduled from July 21 to 23, semi-finals on July 24, and the finals on July 25.
In the Under-15 Boys category, schools in the fray include Maharam Government Hr. Sec. School from South West Khasi Hills, Little Star Hr. Sec. School and Mangsang Hr. Sec. School from East Garo Hills, Dilma Apal Hr. Sec. School from North Garo Hills, Baghmara Govt. Hr. Sec. School from South Garo Hills, Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School from West Garo Hills, North Liberty Hr. Sec. School from West Jaintia Hills, Anderson Hr. Sec. School from West Khasi Hills, Myngken Christian Hr. Sec. School from Ri-Bhoi, Step By Sec. School from East Jaintia Hills, and St. Claret Hr. Sec. School from South West Garo Hills.
The Under-17 Boys lineup features Karukol Hr. Sec. School from South Garo Hills, Balang Mawlangwir Hr. Sec. School from South West Khasi Hills, Dapboklang Giri Memorial Sec. School from West Khasi Hills, O.M. Roy Memorial Hr. Sec. School from East Khasi Hills, Little Star Sec. School from Eastern West Khasi Hills, Myngken Christian Hr. Sec. School from South West Khasi Hills, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya from East Garo Hills, Lurmangkara Sec. School from West Khasi Hills, Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. The Directorate said the tournament is part of the State government’s continued effort under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to identify and nurture sporting talent at the grassroots. With backing from the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, the platform is aimed at giving Meghalaya’s youth the opportunity to progress to national and international competitions.
Officials have invited students, parents and football enthusiasts to attend the matches over the five days and support their district teams.
