Keyi Panyor(Arunachal Pradesh), June 25: Torrential rain on the night of June 23 triggered massive landslides across multiple stretches of the Kimin-Yachuli road, bringing traffic to a complete halt in Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district and leaving commuters stranded.
The road shutdown comes a day after a flash flood tore through Poosa village near Yachuli, killing one person and leaving four others missing. Several homes and property were washed away in the deluge.
Residents say landslides are a monsoon ritual in the area, cutting off villages every year. A truck driver from Assam’s Darrang district told ANI he has been stuck with dozens of others since June 24, with no way forward.
The Border Roads Organisation and district administration have pressed teams to clear debris and boulders from the highway. The state government has also activated emergency air support with the Indian Air Force. The Civil Aviation Department airlifted SDRF personnel and rescue gear to Poosa, and officials said additional sorties are lined up as relief work continues in the district.
