Imphal (Manipur), June 15: A bomb attack on the Kuki-inhabited village of Leilon Vaiphei in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district left three people injured on Monday morning, despite heavy security deployment in the area.
The blast occurred early in the day, and the injured were rushed to the nearest hospital. Security forces reached the spot shortly after and began a combing operation to trace the attackers.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) strongly condemned the assault on civilians and demanded immediate action from Central forces. KIM Publicity Secretary Janghaolun Haokip alleged that militants from NSCN-IM and its proxy outfit, the Zeliangrong United Front (Kamson) or ZUF-K, carried out the bombing.
“This violent act has once again endangered innocent lives, damaged property, and shattered the peace and security of the people. Attacks on civilian areas are unacceptable, inhuman, and a direct threat to the rule of law,” Haokip said in a statement.
He also criticized the government’s response: “We question how much longer security forces will give leeway to those responsible for creating terror and destruction. Silence, delay, or inaction will only embolden the perpetrators and deepen public anger and mistrust.”
