Shillong (Meghalaya), April 26: In a sweeping overnight crackdown, East Khasi Hills Police penalised 194 traffic violators and collected ₹2,46,000 in fines during a special naka drive across Shillong on April 25-26.
The operation, supervised by the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, SP (City/Traffic) and Addl SP Traffic, targeted Sadar, Laitumkhrah and Lumdiengjri sectors to curb unsafe driving practices that spike at night.
Teams checked for drunk driving, illegal exhaust and light modifications, black-tinted vehicle glasses, and verified documents under the Motor Vehicles Act. Over 100 personnel took part, with all traffic branch in-charges and officers-in-charge of police stations on the ground. Gazetted Officers oversaw each naka point to ensure tight coordination.
Police said the drive underscores their push for sustained, visible enforcement to deter violations and make city roads safer.
