Shillong (Meghalaya), April 25: Keri G Momin produced the most explosive individual performance of the 5th Meghalaya State League on Saturday, scoring seven goals as A’chik SCO Rongjeng crushed Balmanduri FC 9-0 in Group G at Williamnagar.
Momin struck in the 18th, 20th, 24th, 48th, 71st, 81st and 84th minutes to set a new season record for goals in a single match. It was also his first time on the scoresheet in MSL 5. Cherryan G Momin in the 58th and Junjun N Marak in the 90th completed the demolition for ASCOR.
Drama unfolded in Mawkyrwat where Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun came from behind twice to beat Mawten SC 4-3 in Group H. Bishalboklang Rongrin scored in the 29th and 71st minutes while Rangkynsaistar Mawsor netted in the 56th and 67th, making him the only Umdang Pyllun player to score in all three games so far. Mawten led through Wellberjune Lyngdoh in the 16th, Kynshewbor Pyngrope in the 54th and Oversharp Iawphniaw in the 85th but could not hold on.
Amlarem SC also staged a comeback in Group C at Amlarem, defeating Lamin XI SCC 4-2. Sanu Sumer gave Lamin XI an early lead in the 5th minute before Wantiwjune Buam equalised in the 32nd. Genial Lamin put Lamin XI back in front in the 46th, only for Amlarem to surge clear with goals from Martial Nongrum in the 65th, Iaid Da Kyrmen Jungai also in the 65th and Wantiwjune again in the 77th.
Mawphu SC delivered a statement win in Group B at Shillong’s MFA Ground, beating Mulang SC Nongbah 4-0. Owenderson Nongrud scored the fastest goal of MSL 5 in the 2nd minute, with Steven Kynta in the 42nd, Ferenstar Kharkongor in the 45th and Archeststar Malngiang in the 73rd adding further strikes.
Thangskai Tiger SC ground out a 1-0 win over Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung in Group D at Khliehriat. Michael Siangshai scored the winner in the 26th minute, two minutes after being booked. Khliehriat remains the league’s tightest venue with only 10 goals in six games. In Mairang, Mishon SSCC snapped a two-match losing run to beat Lawbah SC 2-0 in Group F. Pyndapboklang L Lyngkhoi broke the deadlock in the 74th minute and Rikyrshan Warjri sealed it in the 86th.
Saturday marked the halfway stage for six of the eight groups, with the second leg starting Monday. Wahiajer and Williamnagar will continue their first leg matches.
Monday’s 3pm fixtures: Group A at SSA Stadium has Khimusniang SC vs Umkaber SCC. Group B at MFA Ground sees Nangkiew Irat SC take on Mawlum Tyrsad SCC. Group C in Amlarem pits Lamin XI SCC against Amlarem SC. Group D in Khliehriat features Thangskai Tiger SC versus Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC. Group E in Wahiajer has Shillong Lajong FC facing Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC. Group F in Mairang sees Lawbah SC meet Mishon SSCC. Group G in Williamnagar has Janepih YSCA against Balmanduri FC. Group H in Mawkyrwat sees Mawlarshong SC clash with Rangdajied United FC.
