Shillong (Meghalaya), April 3: The State government has taken a significant step towards addressing the state’s infrastructure and development needs by constituting an all-party committee. The committee, comprising representatives from recognized and registered political parties, will explore the feasibility of introducing railway connectivity in Meghalaya and establish a winter capital in Tura.
The committee’s primary objectives are to examine the feasibility of introducing railway connectivity in Meghalaya and identify potential solutions. They will also conduct a thorough cost-benefit analysis of railway introduction in the state and solicit views and input from all stakeholders concerned.
Furthermore, the committee will deliberate on the establishment of a winter capital in Tura, a long-standing demand of the people of Garo Hills. The committee’s findings and recommendations are expected to pave the way for significant progress in these areas.
The committee will be headed by the Chief Minister or a nominated Minister, and government departments relevant to these matters will also be invited to participate in the discussions. Each political party has been requested to depute two representatives to the committee.
This development is seen as a major step forward in addressing Meghalaya’s infrastructure and development needs. The formation of the all-party committee is expected to bring all stakeholders on board and facilitate a comprehensive and inclusive approach to finding solutions to these long-standing issues.
