Mairang (Meghalaya), April 4 : In a significant verdict, the Honourable Court of M. Kumar, Special Judge (POCSO), West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin, has convicted Dr. Ayam Sunil Khuman, a 58-year-old medical practitioner of committing sexual assault on a minor victim.
The court has sentenced Dr. Khuman to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years, along with a fine of Rs 1,25,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Additionally, he has been sentenced to five years of simple imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 25,000, under Section 10 of the POCSO Act.
The case dates back to July 27, 2020, when a written FIR was filed at Mairang Police Station, alleging that Dr .Khuman had committed sexual assault on a minor victim at his clinic in Pyndengumiong Village, Mairang, Eastern West Khasi Hills. The accused was subsequently arrested and sent to judicial custody.
The investigation was led by WPSI R.R Marak of Mairang Police Station, and the case was registered under Section 7/8 of the POCSO Act.
