Shillong (Meghalaya ), Mar 11: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma met with the Khasi Students Union (KSU) today to address concerns surrounding the Meghalaya State Investment Promotion & Facilitation Act, 2024. The Act, enacted in March 2024, aims to promote investments in the state.
To alleviate citizen concerns, the government has proposed three key amendments:
The proposed amendment will ensure that the Act will not dilute any provision of The Meghalaya Transfer of Land (Regulation) Act, 1971.
The proposed amendment will ensure that the Act does not bypass any provision of the Autonomous District Councils.
Safeguard local employment opportunities – 90 percent jobs will be reserved for locals.
These amendments demonstrate the government’s commitment to listening to citizen concerns and ensuring the Act benefits the state while protecting local interests. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong was also present at the meeting.
