Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 22: In a significant move, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has announced that the government will establish a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) regulating the use of sirens, tinted glasses, and flickering lights in the state. This decision aims to minimize the inconvenience caused to the public and address concerns about the misuse of these privileges, often associated with VIP culture.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need to balance safety and security concerns with the regulation of these privileges. He acknowledged that while safety and security are crucial, they should not be used as an excuse for misuse or abuse of power.
The SOP will outline protocols for the use of sirens, tinted glasses, and flickering lights, including who can and cannot use them, where they can be used, and how they should be used. The Chief Minister expects to bring the SOP before the Cabinet for approval by next week.
This move is a response to the growing concerns among citizens about the misuse of VIP privileges, which has become a nuisance to the public. By establishing a clear SOP, the government hopes to minimize the inconvenience caused to the public and promote a more responsible use of these privileges.
