Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 3: In a significant development, Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji took oath as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court today. Governor C H Vijayashankar administered the oath of office at Raj Bhavan’s Durbar Hall, marking a new chapter in the state’s judiciary.
Born in 1963 in Kolkata, Justice Mukerji hails from a family of lawyers. He studied at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and passed law at the University of Calcutta, later pursuing further education from the University of London.
A seasoned jurist, Justice Mukerji served as a senior advocate in the Calcutta High Court before being appointed as a permanent judge in 2009. With over 15 years of judicial experience, he succeeds Chief Justice S. Vaidyanathan, who recently retired.
As the 13th Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, Justice Mukerji brings his expertise and experience to strengthen the state’s judiciary.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan’s Durbar Hall, symbolizing the commencement of Justice Mukerji’s tenure as Chief Justice.
