Imphal(Manipur), July 26 :Chief Minister N Biren Singh today announced that the State Government will appoint Olympic Silver Medalist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu as Additional Superintendent of Police (Sports) in the Police Department.
She would also get Rs one crore for winning the silver medal.
The announcement was made by the Chief Minister during the inspection of the ongoing installation of Cryogenic Oxygen Plant and construction of COVID hospital for Manipur.
The Chief Minister also announced that Olympian Judoka Likmabam Sushila Devi would be promoted from the post of Constable to Sub-Inspector. And will receive Rs 35 lakh, the CM said.
Sushila lost in the first round of Judo in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
The Chief Minister further reiterated that all the participants would be given Rs. 25 lakhs each. The State government also had decided to establish a World Class Weightlifting Academy in the State soon.
It may be mentioned that Mirabai opened India’s medals tally on Saturday as she bagged a Silver medal in the Women’s 49kg category at Tokyo International Forum. She lifted a total of 202 kg (87kg in snatch and 115kg in clean and jerk) during her four successful attempts across the competition.
