Shillong ( Meghalaya), July 27: BJP legislator from South Shillong constituency Sanbor Shullai was sworn-in as a Cabinet Minister in place of Health Minister, Alexander Laloo at Raj Bhavan here this evening .
He was administered the oath of office by Governor Satya Pal Malik at a function attended by CM Sangma, his cabinet colleagues and senior officials of the state.
Sanbor Shullai, a three-time MLA from Shillong south is one of the two BJP MLAs of Meghalaya and was the party’s candidate from Shillong in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
A L Hek had been minister of the Conrad Sangma government since 2018.
CM Conrad Sangma said after the swearing-in that there will be a reshuffle of portfolios and he will soon announce the portfolio to be given to Shullai.
The National Peoples Party-led ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance is backed by BJP, has UDP, PDF, HSPDP as its constituents and is supported by the NCP and Independents.
The party high command had earlier decided that two BJP MLAs would be sharing the Cabinet for a term of two-and-a-half years each. Hek took up the berth first while Shullai was asked to replace him in the second half of the government’s term.But A L Hek continued as the Minister beyond the two and half years. Sanbor Shullai now has less than one and half year to remain as the Cabinet Minister as the upcoming Assembly polls in the State is scheduled in 2023.
