Tura(Meghalaya), July 25: An effigy of union Home minister, Amit Shah, who is on a 2- day visit to the state of Meghalaya, was burnt in front of the Commissioner Building where the chief minister, Conrad Sangma was apparently working today, July 25 during the afternoon.
The Union Home Minister had shunned talking with the NGOs and instead chose to just provide a token ‘namaste’ from a distance. This gesture of Shah did not go down well with the NGOs including those from Garo Hills, including the GSU and AYWO who condemned the gesture.
“He did not even care to utter a word despite us waiting 3 hours just to meet him to discuss our demand for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP). All we received was a ‘namaste’. This act is condemnable,” said AYWO president, Sengbath Ch Marak.
Yesterday, various NGOs from Khasi Hills, including the KSU, FKJGP, HNYF, RBYF and ADE had come down heavily against the union minister over the matter of neglecting them.
Meanwhile the GSU and AYWO have stated their intention to begin the campaign to bring in ILP in the state through aggressive means.
“We will campaign aggressively on ILP in the days to come and everyone will see that we meant business. We will strive until our demands are met,” asserted Sengbath.
