Shillong ( Meghalaya), July 23 : The Covid situation in the state has taken a grim turn with another 21 deaths and 558 new Covid cases reported in the last 24 hours .
The worst affected district is East Khasi Hills which recorded one dozen deaths and 213 new cases in the last 24 hours .
According to a Health department statement , 21 more Covid patients succumbed to their infections in the last 24 hours out of which 12 cases were from East Khasi Hills, 2 each from West Garo Hills , West Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills and 1 each from Ri Bhoi , South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills .
The death toll today crossed the 1000 mark with 1009 fatalities .
558 new cases were detected on Friday with East Khasi Hills on the top with 213 cases followed by West Jaintia Hills with 115 cases , West Garo Hills with 82 cases and Ri Bhoi with 52 cases .
The active cases in the state now is 4, 539 after 411 patients were discharged today.
