Kokrajhar( Assam) ,June 17: One of three main accused of Abhaikuti rape and murder case , 22 -year -old Farijul Rahman received serious bullet injuries when he tried to escape at around 2 am on Thursday morning .
Police had to open fire on him as result of which he sustained serious leg injuries .
According to police, the incident took place at 2 am today while police went to the Abhaikuti for searching mobile hand set belonging to one of the raped and murdered sisters which was thrown in the jungle on the day of the incident.
A police team visited Abhaikuti area late last night for recovery of the mobile handset thrown in the jungle by the accused..
During the search operation , the accused who had gone with the police for spot verification tried to escape from the spot by attacking a police jawan with a sharp ‘dao’ . The police team immediately resorted to firing to control the situation as result of which the accused received bullet injuries.
He was immediately taken to the RNB civil hospital and later referred to the Barpeta medical college for better treatment.
A police jawan also recieved injuries while he was attacked by the accused and has been admitted to RNB civil hospital Kokrajhar for treatment. The injured jawan has been identified as Atul Boro.
Police has been continuing it’s investigations into the Abhaikuti incident following an FIR lodged with Kokrajhar PS,case no.440/2021.
The dead bodies of two minor girl’s were recovered under mysterious circumstances hanging on a tree on Friday last at Abhaikuti under Kokrajhar police station.
Police has so far arrested seven persons for their involvement in the incident and three of them have been identified as main accused after they confessed to their crime .
The three main accused have been identified as Muzzaamel Sheik, Nashibul Ali Sheik and Farijul Rahman.
The postmortem report revealed that the two minor girls were raped and later murdered by the perpetrators.
Speaking to reporters today ,SP Prateek Thube confirmed that one of three main accused , Farijul Rahman received bullet injuries in the police firing while he tried and escape at around 2am on Thursday .
