Kokrajhar (Assam), Feb 7 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Assam’s Kokrajhar town today to participate in the celebrations to mark the signing of the Bodo agreement. The Prime Minister addressed a rally in Bodo-dominated Kokrajhar .
Addressing over five lakhs people here , PM Modi appreciated the role of the leaders from ABSU and all factions of NDFB who ensured that peace returns back with the signing of the historic accord which will lead to the creation of Bodoland Territorial Region .
He added that it was because of people’s support that the Bodo peace accord was signed, heralding a new dawn of peace in Assam.
“Through the Bodo peace accord,Assam has earned the name of one of the most peaceful and arms free state ”, PM Modi said .
The PM said that people from all communities who are living here in Bodoland would get equal opportunity in coming days.
“I have never seen such a grand rally in this region in my political career.We must remember Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma,Rupnath Brahma who were part of the Bodo society.Violence must come to an end in the region and there should be peace and development ”, PM Modi said .
The PM said that there were some sections who were spreading false rumor about CAA and assured of protection of the indigenous communities here.
This was the first visit of Prime Minister Modi since the state has been witnessing anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests .

Earlier , Senior cabinet Minister , Himanta Biswa Sarma said that PM Modi has been trying to bring permanent peace in the northeastern states and accordingly the Bodo accord and Bru issues have been resolved with peace dialogues.
He appealed all militant groups including ULFA-I to come to the mainstream like all factions of NDFB for lasting peace in the region .
State Chief Minister , Sarbananda Sonowal in his speech said that PM Modi has been working for the welfare and upliftment of the people of the region since shouldering the responsibility as the PM since 2014.
”Northeastern states have earned a good name in the country under the bold leadership of PM Modi and recently The Bodo leaders have come up with this bold decision for peace and development FOR the region ”, Sonowal said.
Earlier people from Bodo community in their traditional attire, welcomed the the Prime Minister .
The signing of the Bodo agreement led to the surrender of over 1,500 militants of the major insurgent group NDFB.
The Bodo groups have been demanding a separate state of Bodoland for the last 50 years. The movement has resulted in extensive violence and loss of hundreds of lives over the years.
