Tura (Meghalaya), Nov 12 :Deputy Commander-in-Chief of United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I) Dhristi Rajkhowa has been handed over to Assam Police and Security Forces, after he surrendered on Wednesday evening to Meghalaya Police.
He was on the run after narrowly escaping encounter with commandos of the Meghalaya Police in Bolbokgre Village, South Garo Hills on Oct 20.
Drishti Rajkhowa, the second-in-command of militant group ULFA (Independent) .
Rajkhowa is currently under the custody of the Army intelligence and Assam Police .
He is known to be a close confidant of Paresh Baruah, the so-called ”commander-in-chief” of United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent).
Dritsi was for sometime camping in Garo Hills in Meghalaya and was frequenting Bangladesh .
He was based in Bangladesh till recently and came to Meghalaya few weeks ago.
His surrender is considered to be a major setback for the militant group.
The ULFA (I) has been demanding an independent state of Assam and has been banned since 1990.
